At least two good restaurants:
- Uwe's German Restaurant
- Edelweiss: Edelweiss German Restaurant - Colorado Springs

Best general bread bakery I know of is Great Harvest Bread Company. Two locations.

The well known German bakery we had (Old Heidelberg) closed over a year ago when the guy moved to FL. Not sure if there are any others around.

Wimberger's is a German bakery: Wimberger's Home Page

Dutch Pastry Shop lists a lot of goodies: Boonzaaijer's Cakes and Pastries : Colorado Springs

There's also a new German restaurant in NE Colorado Springs - it's called Schnitzel Fritz and it's at 4037 Tutt Blvd.

I don't know about bakeries... I know there are a few around here - Old Colorado City has one, I think, there's a Great Harvest downtown - but I've never heard anybody rave about any of them.

Marigold has a great bakery, as well as a nice restaurant. They are on Centennial near Garden of the Gods.

Albertsons carries wonderful breads that they bake on site. We LOVE their sourdough loaf, though they sell out of it somedays early. It's a bummer when you've got a craving!

My wife has one of those bread machines. We make really good bread. Sometimes I save the grains from when I homebrew and we throw those in it. It's super good! Nothing like a loaf of hot bread with a good dinner.

Great Harvest is great...they have one of those here in Anchorage. Free samples rock!

Can't tell you how many times I've stopped at Albertson's in Briargate (at Union and Research) to get a rotisserie chicken and a loaf of their fresh hot bread.

Then again, for sheer HUGE fried chicken breasts (at least twice the size of KFC), I'll hit King Soopers (at Union and Briargate Pkwy) by the new hospital, and get two of those plus a loaf of their fresh hot bread.

Default Bakeries

There is another bakery on the Northeast side at Tutt and N. Carefree - Altitude Sweets Bakery. Not European in nature, but really great breads, pastries, candies, cookies, cinnamon rolls that won 07 and 08 Best of the Springs, and KOLACHES.

Kolaches are a must try if you haven't yet, my favorite at the moment is sausage and gravy.
