We have 2 kids, ages 13 and 11...we just moved here to Woodland Park June 1st. For me, it was very important to be "in town" so my kids could make friends the 2 months leading up to when school starts. We live on Columbine Village Dr...ALOT of kids, mostly younger (5-10 yrs)...but my kids have made some frineds their own age too.
But I'll tell you what...you can go in any direction of WP and it is GORGEOUS!!!!!

It is nice to hear that you and your family love the area. Please let me know if you need any ideas for your future in the area. The mountains are currently filthy with wildflowers. Keep enjoying the scenery.
I saw a doe with her two spotted fawns out running near Twin Rocks Rd. the other day. A commute can sometimes be a treat in this area of the country.

We will be there the 2nd week of August. We will be living in Rosewood Hills at the top of the hill, from what I've been told. Our 3 year old will start at Summit Elem the first week of September in the afternoon classes.
I look forward to getting there, settled in, and resuming my otherwise normal life. Never been one to get out and about much...even with living in this big city of Houston (currently). Stay home with my kids, get out to Walmart every other day (it seems), and keep up with the house. At least now, once we are there, I can send the kids outside to play and they won't be affected by the 105+ heat we've had all summer.

population, rec center updates?
I too am looking into moving to this area. this thread is awesome.
I'd like to know about the towns population though...
is it mostly younger couples with kids or older retired people or young single outgoing kids?
I read a lot about a rec center too.. wondering if anyone had any updates on that. It seems I'd love the place a lot more if there were more to do for kids around that area... to keep them busy and away from the drugs and bad influences...
any help would be great.
THANKS

Well we made it!
Arrived last Saturday evening and first stop was to Walmart (even before getting to the house) to buy the kids some sweat pants and long sleeve shirts. I had them all packed on the yellow Penske truck LOL
Spent the week getting unpacked, taking the kids to the skatepark in WP and in COS, took a break and did the Critter fest last Sunday at the Dinosaur Museum, and then took them to the Farmer's market this morning.
I'm finding that it really is a convienent place to live even though we don't live "in town." We are 3 miles up the mountain off of 24 on CO 25 and I really like our house. Our neighbors stole our wood before we got here but not going to make a fuss over it. Just go out and get more I suppose.
Hubby starts his job on Monday just down the mountain at Don's Body shop in COS.
does anyone know anything about the Champions program for the Elementary schools? I've got the 3 yr old in the PALS but I've been told to check out the Champions program as well for my 2 year old.
Also, I've seen a lot of hair/nail places...where does everyone recomend getting a decent hair cut?
OH, (I know, another question) and what about a general practice doc? I was told to stay away from the main guy in town...not sure who "he" is.
Thanks!

Congrats!!! Hope you're loving it here! Is your 3 year old in the PAL program here (at Gateway I think?)? I just learned about that program from my daughter's daycare (she's 2) and am planning to have the screening done this September. What do you think of it? I'm not sure about the Champions Program so I'd like to hear more about that too. As far as the General Practice Dr....I've taken my daughter to Dr. Snyder because he covers pediatrics. I'm not sure if he's the one that you've been warned against but he seemed fine to me.
p.s. I wish I knew where to get my hair done....my roots are about 4'' now. I'm such a slacker. lol

I was just in WP last Thursday (8/13). I sure wish it was my moving truck that was going there. Enjoy.

Now that you're a local, go get breakfast at Hungry Bear sometime. Lots of food for not much money and definitely a local atmosphere.

I can second that. Hungry Bear's breakfasts are great with a cozy, local diner feel.
