just read about three months of stuff
i have spent the last three days here checking out people, housing, stores, attitudes, etc. I LOVE THIS PLACE AND WOULD MOVE TOMORROW IF THAT WERE POSSIBLE.
We head back to Okla tomorrow - will probably try to find a place to rent for about three months before we try to purchase property.

There are 3 Elementary schools (Columbine, Gateway, and Summit), the Middle School, and the High School.
Still waiting for another big box (Home Depot/Lowes), and a some more restaurant options. The Dairy Queen closed shop a few months back, Primos is gone (wasn't here long), and Martini Hut closed down. We did get a Papa Murphy's after WalMart game into town, so hopefully more places follow.

What!!?!? The DQ closed down? What bummer. My wife and I were just talking about how nice it was having a DQ close. Here in Texas we have to drive 20 minutes to get to the closest DQ. Of course everything else in Woodland Park took a trip to the Springs which I do not have to deal with here.
This is for all you still in WP. Yesterday it was 102 with a heat index of 110 in good 'ole Texas. I do not miss spending 8 months out of the year buried in snow but I really can't say I like living in an oven either. I would like to find a place where 12 months of the year it was like WP from mid June to mid August.

Yeah they did! The wife and I were out on a Corvette drive in the mountains a couple weeks ago and decided to head to the Woodland Park DQ for a Blizzard on the way back down to C Springs. It was closed; I couldn't believe it! How do you lose a DQ? Being a native Texan, this makes no sense to me.

I've been here exactly 4 weeks now and love it more than ever. My wife found a job here in town as an office manager...the kids are getting plugged in at Youth Group...as for me...it is so hard to concentrate on work from here...I work from home and it's so gorgeous outside! My kids had a snow ball fight yesterday at Youth Group!!! We had a bit of a hail storm yesterday and when it collected on the gorund it looked like snow...at least to us Arizonans.
I DO NOT miss the 115 degree heat in AZ!!!! I can't wait till' it snows this fall/winter!!!
Alot of cool festivities planned here the 4th of July weekend! This town is amazing!

That's so great that you made it to Woodland Park and are loving it. Congratulations! My wife and I live in the Springs and would love to move up there someday. Although as you said, the amazing weather and views would make it hard to get any work done.
Have you had a chance to visit the other nearby mountain towns like Green Mountain Falls and Cascade?

Went to Manitou Springs and ate at an awesome little place called Adams Mountain Cafe then walked around and window shopped, listened to live music and had some custard ice cream. I do plan on driving thru the little towns of Green Mountain Falls and Cascade...they look so perfect from the highway. We drove to Deckers which is really just an intersection for fishermen...but the sound of the river and the nice drive makes it well worth the afternoon...went up to Pikes Peak TWICE!!! Can you say, "Fried Donuts?" OMG Very good! Yummy!
I'll tell you what...there is so much to do even along highway 24 up the pass...at least to me being form Arizona where there is NOTHING fun to look at...alhtough I hear there is a really big hole in the northern part of AZ that gets alot of tourists...but this beautiful green place just puts me in a trance!!!

If you haven't hit up the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo yet, definitely put that on your list.
You should also drive out to Cripple Creek sometime, it's a beautiful 40 minute drive from WP. It's even more beautiful when the aspens change colors in the fall. The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine is a fun place, especially for the kids. You get to descend 1000' underground into an original 1800's mine!
Then when it turns November, the wife and I head 85 miles to Breckenridge/Keystone about every weekend to hit the slopes until April.

Oh yeah, I forget to mention...we did go to Cripple Creek...very cool place...not what you would expect from a "strip" of casinos...I half expected a gun fight to break out in the street like the wild west.
We'll definitely do the Zoo too.
Come ski season we are DEFINITELY going to experience Colorado...all I've ever ski'd on was in Arizona...it's like skiing a 100 yards of slushy snow then hitting a dirt hill then rolling down the mountian the rest of the way...but as long as yo have good insurance it's worth the time...not

If you have questions about moving to Woodland Park then contact me. I have lived in the area for over 14 years and I know the neighborhoods where the snow plows don't come and I know the areas where you can find wind too much of the time. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Moving to Colorado in 2011
My husband and I will be moving to Cripple Creek/Florisant in 2011. We currently live in Virginia and plan to start retirement in Colorado. We have visited the area at least once per year since 2005 and plan to build a house on 35 acres once we get there. We absolutely love the area. I would love any information offered on what to expect.
