Default Staffing Agencies in Colorado Springs

I am moving to Co. Springs in April and am wondering if any new residents, or current too i suppose, have utilized any of the local staffing agencies with much success. Particularly any agencies specializing in office work. Did you feel as if they really were working to place you?
My experience with agencies is that they all will let you spend three hours filling out paperwork and doing tests, but not all will spend even the same amount of time actually trying to help you find work.

I plan on looking for work on Craigslist, Monster.com, etc, but its important I find work soon after I arrive and need to pursue every avenue possible.
If any of my soon to be neighbors could point me in the right direction I'd be quite grateful.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

The job market in general is very, very competitive in Colorado Springs. A good friend of mine has done administrative/office temp work for many years there, however the agencies have been unable to place her in any positions since last fall. She is an excellent employee; the positions are just not out there. You might have better luck in the Denver area, but things are getting difficult there too.

Be careful with the Craigslist employment ads - there are a lot of fraudulent ads that are just trying to get information from you.

I agree with Coloradoan - the job market is lean and competitive here. But it depends on the type of work you are seeking. I've had bad luck with Accountemps and Robert Half placement agencies. They aren't very agressive to place you, only to fill positions. The best bet is to network by making friends at coffee shops, churches, etc. and let everyone know you are looking for work. It doesn't look like any stimulus money is coming here to do anything but to prevent government employees from being laid off....good luck

One of the industries that is hiring are the casinos in Cripple Creek. They are hiring around 200 dealers when they go live with craps and roulette in July. A dealer should be able to clear $40K+. If you get in from the ground up, you have a decent shot at becoming a supervisor and move up.

Pikes Peak Community College is working with some of the casinos to offer classes, which will get you a gauranteed job if you do well in the classes.

Default Thanks for the info...

I appreciate the tips. Looks like there's a good chance I may end up in another field. New state, new work... so it goes.
Thanks again.
