Coming to Colorado Springs on Business
Can anyone tell me what there is to do around The Citadel (besides shopping)? Is it pretty easy to get around? How far from downtown? I'll be staying for 5-7 days so I need plenty to do. Thanks

Not far (5 miles or so) to Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds.
A little further (8-10 miles?) to Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (and Roy Rogers Schrine/Tower of the Sun).
Scenic 40 minute drive to Woodland Park.
Pikes Peak Cog railway out of Manitou Springs (1/2 day trip up and back)

There isn't really much to do right around the Citadel but COS isn't a huge city so getting around easy fairly easy once you master Academy Blvd, Powers, and the Interstate. Since you are here on business, can I assume you will be looking for things to do after your 9-5 schedule? This eliminates some of the city's attractions because you are working while some are open. More info please so we can continue to give you suggestions.

Thanks. I'll be there in a few weeks. Im not sure what my schedule will be, but most likely I won't have time to do anything scenic that isn't with in the city. I will be traveling alone and im somewhat of a night owl. So, sitting in a hotel room at night isn't really for me. I would like to know about any vegan/vegetarian restaurants, chill bars, late night cafe's, movie theaters and music venues in the Citadel area, or not far. Most likely I will be there a Wed-Mon so I could have the weekend off to do some sight seeing.

There's a movie theater right across Academy Blvd from the Citadel - a dollar theater that plays ones just before or in some cases after they come to DVD. There is another theater south down Academy a couple of miles. The only vegan restaurant I know of is Adams Mountain Cafe in Manitou which you would not walk to from the Citadel. Downtown is about 3-4 miles West of the Citadel - just take Platte (which is the street on the South end of the Citadel) straight West. There is a Nickel a Play on Platte right next to the Citadel (a block west of the Citadel). Plenty of basic night life downtown but I don't know what it looks like Mon-Wed. Some of those may have music. If you really want to go anywhere, a car is probably in order. On the weekend there should be tons of places to go. Realize that 'out of town' here is not far - only 20 minutes to the Zoo, about the same or a bit more to the Pikes Peak Highway, etc.

I should have a car, if I don't i'll go crazy. Especially if I can't walk anywhere. Your ideas sound good so far.

Thanks all. I actually stayed in the Northern part of the city on Academy. I was caught in the blizzard (the worst of the season I heard) so I spent 2 days in my hotel room. I did get to see the Garden of the Gods my last day, and loved it! Over all it's a nice town, from what I saw. Definitely had that military town vibe, which is okay for a business trip but not sure I could live around it. Take care. L
