The really great thing about the snow here is that it melts away within a day or two (maybe even within hours). Of course I've been here for just a few weeks but I was really expecting a lot worse for the big snow storm of the year. It gets cold, definitely cold, but the sun is so warm! I'm absolutely fine with the weather here and I knew before I moved that winter lasted well into spring. Where I'm from in Erie PA we had winters that lasted this long, feet of snow that rarely melted and we measured cloudy days like you measure sunny days here.....300 or so a year. As for moving from a warmer climate like California, if you can make it through the first winter you'll get used to the snow-driving and shoveling and maybe appreciate the little things in winter, like warm fires cuddled up on your couch with a cup of hot cocoa. It's hard to not like the snow around here when everything looks so clean and beautiful with a blanket of snow on it. I suppose it's not for everyone but I certainly wouldn't be scared of it.

As weird as you freezing at 73 sounds, you will adapt to it here too. When I first moved here in 2000, it was so cold. November of 2000 had like 3 days that had a temp above freezing. Yikes! Then one day in December it got up to like 43. I thought I was in Hawaii! Your skin will get thicker.

Don't forget though that most people consider "nice" weather to be warm and mild. So is the weather here like that? It is in May, June, July, August, and into September. Except for the hail, I love the thunderstorms. I love it when it just absolutely lets loose, the sky dark as night, thunder shaking the house...it is very exciting. The hail can be a bit too much though. I have seen hail about the size of a quarter maybe ten times in 9 years. That stuff will dent up your car and shred your garden.

Don't worry about the snow or cold. This area has relatively mild winters compared to the upper Midwest. We have been here 22 years and the winters are pleasantly nice. Ya, there are some cold days but it warms up really fast within a couple of days. Very easy to take
