Cripple Creek Mountain Estates
I live in Florida, but hope to one day (soon) move there. I have found a very cheap piece of property at Cripple Creek Mountain Estates. When looking around there, I noticed that there are a ton of properties for sale there. Is there something wrong with the area? Does anyone know anything about the area at all?
Thank you in advance!!!

Cripple Creek is up high on the mountain (9000 ft or so altitude) and is not close to major town type conveniences. Tree line is up around there as well so some places have pines others have no trees at all.
Google "Cripple Creek, CO" and look at the satellite map view to see if you would want to live in a somewhat remote area.

Thank you for your responses... By the time I actually move there, I will be retired... So I will not need to worry about working... However, my husband will still have a couple of more years working and would commute to CS.
We have gone all through Colorado... Absolutely fell in love with it!!! We especially liked Crippled Creek... because it was rural, mountainous but still affordable.
We did not go the CC Mountain Estate while we were there. I found 1.4 acres there for an unbelievable low price. The land is bare... no electricity (although a pole is near), no septic, no road... still the price seems too cheap. The title is clear, there is nothing wrong with the land itself. Sometimes though,,, things just seem too good. I need to either buy it or back out. I was hoping some one might have some insight.

Myself, I'd be leery as hell about buying raw land anywhere, in any state. So many bad deals out there. Well and septic costs can run $25k or more, not to mention costs to build. We've had people in these COLO forums before who told us they bought land somewhere and ended up with a less than wonderful deal. Myself, I'd be looking to get an existing home somewhere.
IIRC, the Cripple Creek area has signs up that it's an "active gold mining area" and that sign could mean many things about mineral rights and mining that could ruin a view or make life miserable. Sorry to be a bummer, but I hate to see anyone buy land from any fancy sounding place only to regret it later. I'm not sure who you should be talking with, but I'd be real careful buying land without seeing it and fully checking around.
My first thought was to advise you to check with a realtor, but then IIRC, their code of ethics may prevent them from bad mouthing a place, even if it's true, not sure, maybe a realtor could chime in here.

True, true Mike. Like the lots for sale on ebay down in the San Luis Valley. No water and electric but very cheap. Check out the land for sale near Alamosa. One of the harshest climates in Colorado but people are buying them.

That's one of the areas I had in mind when I made that remark. A poster was talking about a great deal on a 5-acre plot down there, but as several of us agreed, it was essentially worthless land that had no meaningful value as a place to live. Not sure what's going on with the Cripple Creek land, but if it seems too good to be true, you can bet there's a story to be told.

Thanks... Everyone pretty much echoed what I was feeling... Just spoke with my husband... we are going to pass (to his dismay)... and going to stick with the original plan... move to a city (Denver or CS) and rent learn the area, then see where we want to buy from there.
Your input is greatly appreciated!!!!
