Just moved here from Lake Erie where our dogs got to go swimming all the time. Was wondering if there's anywhere in C.S. to take the dogs swimming at. So far, I haven't found anyplace. Thanks in advance for any help!

Lots of places. I've had to research as well since we adopted a 3 yr. old Golden who's a big swimmer. First, check out Fox Run Regional Park. There are two ponds there that dogs frequent. They are ponds though - big enough for swimming but its not a throw-the-ball-as-far-as-you-can place. Nice picnic areas, grassy lawns, and also wooded trails too.

Next, check out Homestead Regional Park in Peyton. It may be a drive for you (unless you are lucky enough to live in our Falcon area). Bigger swimming hole there. Sandy edges all around. Nice facilities. Playground, frogs, trails, pavillions. I am thinking this is a newer park so many don't know about it. Keep our secret!

Ice Lake on Air Force Academy. This is the largest of the three, bathrooms, doggie bags even, so dogs must frequent a lot. Its not too hard to find, but there isn't a sign. I think its off of Pine Drive. I turned at the Pine drive across from some plane/jets on the other side of the road. If you see a dirt road next to the railroad tracks, turn there. There also may be signs for a Sante Fe Trailhead. It is down there too (a great trail). Lake is just at the far end of the parking lot behind the bathrooms.

Rampart Reservoir. I haven't checked this one out, but I've read from other bloggers this is a great big place to take dogs swimming. Check it out and let me know. I've heard its the best.

Lastly.......ta da.....there is a hydrotherapy pool for dogs out here in Falcon area too (told you you should live in Falcon). It is primarily for rehabilitating injured or older dogs, but they will do "fun swims" for your dog. You have to pay for your 30 minutes session and they don't let the dog jump in from the side, but its a nice option on a rainy day. Can get pricey if your dog wants to go a lot.

I hope this helps. Check out the wonderful dog parks of COS too.

Default dog friendly lakes?

Hello,

My family and I just moved to the Springs and wanted to know if there were any dog friendly lakes we could take our labs to for a swim? We don't want to bother any fisherman, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have seen dogs swimming at Fox Run. I don't know if it's allowed, but I have seen dogs swimming there.

I second Stratton Open Space - the first reservoir is designated for dog swimming. It's nice. You have to walk about a mile or so in and out to get to the reservoir, fyi.

It's certainly worth the short trek in.
