My husband and I moved from Maui to Colorado Springs just a little over three months ago. We were very excited to move since Maui had been our home for five years, we were looking for a new change. We are both young and have no children yet so it was a fairly easy move, no strings ect.

I have to say that its very beautiful over here and we live in the northern part of the Springs, which we like very much. Coming from Maui the shopping is great over here, and there seems to be a lot of options. We think the downtown area is very nice and have had dinner several times. Overall we like the city, the weather, and the people are very welcoming. But we have decided we miss our island life and the people and will most likely be going back to Maui in January, because we feel like that is our home.

Before coming out here I had a lot of questions and everyone on this post was so nice and gave me a lot of good information. Just wanted to say thank you for all your help! Colorado is a beautiful state and we were blessed to be able to live here!

Honestly, do you think three months is long enough for a new place to feel like home?

If I had the means to setup shop in Maui, I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Looks like gas is $3.72/gallon there, vs. $2.43 in Woodland Park. A gallon of milk in Hawaii will run you around $5.00, as well as a loaf of bread. Don't get me started on the housing costs! I don't understand how people do it, unless they made it big or work 2-3 jobs.

I hear ya. The wife and I had our honeymoon in Hawaii back in Feb. We did Oahu and the Big Island. I LOVE Hawaii! Of course, like so many tourists, we thought about how we could set up home there some day. It is expensive (especially housing, oh and everything else) and I began to be concerned about Island Fever. In the end, I knew I'd miss my beautiful mountains and everything we love about Colorado and Colorado Springs. If we moved to Hawaii, I know that I would end up missing Colorado as it is my home. I totally understand what the OP is saying.

Making a new 'home' is very hard and usually take years, at least three of them, in my experience.

That said, if Maui is already your home and there is nothing holding you back from returning, then why not?

Thank you everyone for the positive feed back! Yes, Maui is very expensive but fortunately we are blessed enough to be able to live there. Though Colorado is so much easier on our finances, Maui is our home and since being here we have that desire more and more that Maui is where we belong
Blessings to everyone

Home is where you hang your hat and surrounded by family (if applicable)... There are just some places that you feel so comfortable and truly feel at "home" as soon as you arrive.
Been in VA for 3 weeks and we are living in our camper while waiting for our townhome so it feels like home. As far as the town, it is still new and exciting.
