I have read that the city mass transit is lacking in this area. Does the city bus system offer transit services for those who are unable to drive due to medical condition? For example, getting to/from health related appts/activities?

I found this out there: https://www.springsgov.com/Page.aspx?NavID=1008

You might call them to find out if they meet your needs.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping for.

FWIW, when I was temporarily in a wheelchair after breaking my leg last summer, I used Beo Transportation and the Yellow Cab wheelchair taxi to get to my orthopedist appointments. They were not cheap, but I was told that it wasn't worth applying for a paratransit pass because it takes so long to to go through that I'd be driving again by that time.

Our public transit systems are not developed. It just is not feasible for a city of our size to provide the services without excessive costs. I wish you the best of luck with acquiring one of those passes, otherwise dr. frog's option may provide another effective method.

A couple other notes:

The fare for the Yellow Cab wheelchair taxi is the same as the normal cab fare for the same distance. IIRC, they only provide door-to-door service, and can't help you inside or provide a transportation wheelchair. E.g., if your home doesn't have a wheelchair ramp, you need to get someone else to get you and your wheelchair in and out of the house.

Beo's base rate is a little higher, but they do provide whatever assistance you need to get where you need to go. They'll deliver you directly to the check-in counter at your doctor's office or surgery clinic, for example, and help you up the steps at your home when you return.

You should call ahead at least a day in advance to schedule a pickup for your appointment, and tell them what time you need to be there. I had no issues with getting to my appointments on time, but both times I used Beo I had to wait a long time (over an hour) after calling for pickup to go home again.
