Need Help: Temporary Housing - CO Springs
I'm going to be moving to colorado springs shortly. I have decided to buy a house, but in the mean time I need a place to stay.
I'm looking for fully furnished apartment/condo with short term lease options.
Unfortunaly I will not have time to make a trip to CO springs before I move to scope out prospective temporary housing. I'm looking for a nice clean unit in a decent neighborhood. It doesn't have to be perfect because it is only temporary, but at least has to be safe.
So far I have found Fireside Apartments.
620 N. Murray Blvd.
Colorado Springs, CO 80915

Anyone ever seen this place? How does it look, what kind of neighborhood?

I think part of it depends on how long you want to rent for and how much you are willing to pay. If you give us some more info, we can help you out. bashep

Dont know anything about the apartments around there, but I know the general area of Murray Blvd from Platte to Galley.
They do have lots of traffic along Murray, but overall that is a somewhat decent area. That area along Murray though around there probubly has more problems (police calls/violent crime etc.) then the average neighborhood though in Colorado Springs but I personally would walk down that street day or night. Colorado Springs just doesnt have nearly the rough areas that cities of similar size do.
Starts going down-hill a bit as you approach Airport Blvd but still usually okay.
They do have retail around there on Murray Blvd (fast-food, gas stations), but there is going to be alot of traffic day and night from Murray Blvd.
Its fairly close to the mall though and lots of retail about 6 blocks west of there. In fact Academy to Circle between Platte and San Miguel is one of the largest retail corridors in the city.
They also have some weekly chain motels along Chesnut but not as much retail around there and its much, much quieter in general along Chesnut also.

Oh gods, avoid Murray at all costs unless you enjoy the life of crime and are pretty tough.
You can find temporary housing at numerous places like extended hotels. There are plenty around and I would certainly go that route (think to the north and the northwest area of town). Marriot has a few extended stay places as well at other hotel providers. In fact, someone posted recently (say within the last four months) about a place that used to be a hotel and now is a rental place on I-25 and Fillmore...I wish I could remember the name of it.
But avoid Murray Blvd. and points south and east of there.

Thanks for the tip to avoid the area. I'm really having trouble finding affordable temporary housing in CO Springs. The extend stay hotels come out to about 2-3k a month. I found some other corporate housing but the price is over 2k/month. I'm looking to spend around 1000-1500/month. I had no trouble finding quality temporary housing in Albuquerque a few years ago for about 1500/month.
Anyone know of any places or recommendations?

You're talking about Fillmore Crossing, probably. I drove through there last month because my son was thinking about it since they provide cable and utilities with the rent. I talked to a lady who was out walking and she said she liked it there OK and had never had any trouble with neighbors, etc. It would possibly be a reasonable place to rent short term. It's on the frontage road, northeast corner of Fillmore and I-25, you almost need to be westbound on Fillmore to get to it.

We (wife and 2 kids) stayed at Vista View apts off of Union blvd, btw Woodmen & Academy, for a couple months before moving into our home. They were the only apts we found that did month 2 month. It's not the best looking apts, but we had no issues there. Kids played outside quite a bit since there were plenty of kids in the complex (while I supervised of course).

Have you looked into subletting? Try craigslist for colorado springs -- sublet. Just checked it out briefly and here's an example of a 2BR for $870 around the Garden of the Gods area (very good area):

Try Altamira Apartments, 2210 Skyview Ln, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 (719) 578-8073 www.altamira-apts.com
I don't think they are furnished but when we were looking we found that they are one of the few that offer month-to-month or 3-month leases. The rent seemed reasonable.
