Im looking to relocate to COS sometime after January starts. Im looking for the best and safest neighborhoods in Colorado Springs. I was told by a Colorado Springs Utilities worker to stay away from SE Colorado springs. She said that the western area (Manitou springs) would be a good spot, as well the NE side.

Id like to get the opinion of some Colorado Springians on to what the best place to rent an apt might be.

Please refer to: http://www.city-data.com/forum/color...ics-photo.html and scroll down to "neighborhoods".

Also, an advanced search with various terms like "safe, neighborhood" and specifying Colorado Springs in the 'Search in Forum" box will net you a ton more.

This will allow you to come up with some more specific questions that perhaps apply only to you...ie: housing costs, desire of shopping, schools, commute times, etc...

I feel comfortable here in Colorado Springs in the supposedly "bad" side of town... If you look by population we have a lot of three and 4 story apt buildings here and north side olf town has a lot of 1 acre lots. Yes we have some crime here but we also have a large military presense here.. so really don't think it is a truly unsafe area.... but yes, most people will tell you the further north you go the less crime per area! And yes~ went out for a walk after dark~ just got back!

Anyways, unsafe? Please...unsafe is walking alone at 3am in D.C., Detroit and parts of Baltimore. Here? Bah. It just looks somewhat dated.

I agree. People have different comfort levels, but honestly there isn't anywhere in the whole county that I'd worry too much about walking around alone at night, etc., aside from just using common sense and paying attention to your surroundings anywhere you go.

When I mentioned those 3 cities I meant some abandoned streets that are desolated and spooky with boarded windows and doors and a few shady characters just "hanging" around.

Theres safe neighborhoods on all sides of the city. One thing with Colorado Springs I noticed is stay away from apartment complexes, especially on the Southeast side of town. They just seem to be trouble in this city.
