Moving to Colorado Springs a possibility.. (Denver, Fountain: apartment, rentals, houses)

Hi, I have been offered a job in Colorado Springs and am very excited. But I have never been there. I would really like to communicate with people who know about apartment rentals, neighborhoods, activities, etc.

Hi Granny,
A little more info would help. If you have kids, Districts 20 or 38 would be preferred. If you like an older established neighborhood with beautiful houses, then the Broadmoor area would fit. School district 12 there is the best in the city. The prices are generally higher, but everything is relative. If you want the most house for the money then look on the east side. If schools and work commute are not concerns than you might look into Woodland Park. It's a few miles up the mountain and is very beautiful.

I think youd like the Old Northend or the Westside of Colorado Springs if you really like to have alot of activities and enjoy a vibrant area. Alot more quaint in the Downtown and Westside of Colorado Springs then in the newer, more suburban-like areas.

If you like an area where lots of retail is close and is newer then North Colorado Springs. North of Austin Bluffs around Academy you might like also.
Erindale (Academy and Vickers to Woodmen area) and Briargate (Academy around I-25). They are newer and alot like what a suburban area of alot of cities are like though.

As far as activities go it depends on what you are into...
Recreational oppurtunities in Colorado Springs are very, very good overall with lots of very nice and huge parks. They have a huge park near Cheyenne Mountain that is very well maintained, huge and scenic and also Palmer Park a few miles North-East of Downtown Colorado
Arts and Entertainment selection is middle-of the road for a city of its size, they do have a very good arts center and museum though just north of downtown. Denver just an hour north though has just had a very large museum expansion that you might like.
Not as many galleries in Colorado Springs as most cities its size, but the west side has a higher concentration of artsy types though Denver has many gallery districts

Downtown Colorado Springs really has became a great place in the last decade. Downtown has a small-town, main-street and relaxed way about it with lots of very friendly people down there. They also have the main museum downtown, Monument Valley Park and what used to be Confluence Park but I dont know what they name it now.

Overall, Colorado Springs is considered a low-rent city. Lots of apartment and housing vacancies because of military deployments recently.

The second I retire, I am moving BACK to there. Lived in eleven states (Texas is my 12th) and hands down COLORADO SPRINGS is absolutely the best of everything!

And yes, try the Westside or Northend...my most favorite places. OR if you don't mind driving alittle ways check out Woodland Park...a growing area with a great downtown. Going south...some parts of Fountain are awesome as well!

Was there for the Hayman fire...that was kinda scary since it was close to my house...but other than that Colorado Springs is heaven on earth!
