The burgers are amazing.

My stand is that the food in the Springs is not exactly to die for. Until now. I found a tiny little place in Security on Main called Vi's Take Out (719) 391-8257. The place is tiny and the owners lived in Albuquerque for many years. This is the only place in town that has anything close to the red chile I was used to in Albuquerque. And this stuff is to die for. Like red chile should be. Anyone from Abq will know what I mean.

I do not mean to advertise on here, but rather to provide a service to anyone that wants seriously good food. I just tried it today and aim to go back for a burger as the owner said that the burgers are pretty much their main thing. They have an open face burger smothered in chile and cheese that looks like it is straight from heaven.

They have an article from the Gazette on the wall and it's a great review. Whether or not you like it, the chile there is exactly what you find all over Albuquerque. Awesome!

I tried the Big Fat Greek Restaurant, and was very much pleased. Service was good, perhaps not great. The food was very good, at a reasonable price.

I'll certainly go back and give them another try.

You ought to try the Caspian Cafe on Sinton Road, just of Garden of the Gods, right next to the Department of Wildlife office. They're mediterranian (sp?) food is out of this world, especially if you like Gyros.

Dion's Pizza will be coming to Color Springs in October of 2012 off of Powers and Dublin. They have amazing pizza, subs and salads. The prices are great too.

Conscious Table closed its doors this week.

Very sad. Like Palapas and Plate World Cuisine, it was a solid answer to the complaint that there are no "good" restaurants in Colorado Springs. It seems our neighbors aren't willing to pay the few extra dollars to support a good, local restaurant. There's always a line at Chili's or Red Lobster though.

Agree.

Chili's, Red Lobster, et al, show the "triumph of the familiar" ( a new phrase, I just coined it here). We saw this ably demonstrated when we drove our rental car out of the airport on the island of Kauai; the older foiks in front us headed straight for McDonald's, we went a block further and pulled into a local egg eatery with a screened-in patio, tropical breezes and little lizards climbing around on the outside of the screens - excellent food, and the exact sort of experience we went to Hawaii for.

Locally, though it's a chain, we just got a Jimmy John's in our area. Their #12 "Beach Club" sandwich on 7-grain bread is a great sandwich, and I got it quicker than McDonald's.

Which Wich is another new chain sandwich place new to Colorado Springs. It is on Nevada, in the same shopping center as the new Lowes, Kohls and Costco. Their sandwiches are pretty good and I like the way you order them. Which Wich® Superior Sandwiches

You know, I wonder how much of that is because of poor advertising. Conscious Table? Never heard of it. Same for Palapas and Plate World Cuisine. I am sure there are many more that came and went without me ever hearing about them. Maybe it's because I don't eat out very often.

Though food is a low priority item for me as I see food as nothing more than that which provides nutrients for the body, so therefore eat out very seldom (most of the stuff served in restaurants tends to have more calories, fat and sugar in them than I wish to consume), I know there's a lot of people who might frequent places other than the chain restaurants if they advertised better. Then again, maybe not.
