Ideas on where to move, wanting to be in the Colorado Springs area.
We are a family in Iowa wanting to move to the Colorado Springs area. However, we live in a small town now and are wanting the same thing there. Any suggestions on the best places to look for raising young children in a smaller school environment.

Check out the Fountain / Fountain Valley area just S of the Springs. A bit more rural here. RP

I would second that - Fountain is a nice small town, right next to the city. Other small town areas around the Springs include Hanover, Ellicott, Peyton, Manitou, Calhan, Woodland Park, Palmer Lake, Monument, etc. These all have very different feels, and we'd need more information about you to help narrow the recommendations.

Check out Woodmen Hills in Falcon, about 12 miles east of the Springs. School District is d49 ( Home). We have a population of about 10,000, no city taxes, no mill levy. Nice stuff is Wal-Mart, several restaurants, various churches, strip malls, rec centers with a lot of programs, and a sense of community spirit. The library district will break ground on a new library out here next week. It feels rural out here, but we still have city services--water, sanitation, etc. There is more information on their website: Woodmen Hills Metro. Click on the Neighborhood Info link beneath the picture on the first page.

For a small town feel that is close to COS, look at Palmer Lake. It's got some great resturants, selection of older or newer homes and is an easy commute to COS, even closer to Monument for shopping. My daughter has a friend who lives there and they can walk to the Rock House for ice cream or the school playground. Pretty cool. Do a search for 'Palmer Lake'. Tree Donkey has great pictures and info about his hometown.

I second what FalconLady suggests and highly recommend this area of town that is called Falcon. LOVE the small town feel out here and its clean, many amenities (shops, restaurants, grocery, clinics, etc.) We live in Meridian Ranch which is another subdivision out here with its own amenities - huge gym, indoor basketball, kids game room, childcare, pool, walking trails and kids programs. Schools out here are top notch and sports programs out here are challenging yet fair and the kids are the center of focus. We are a military family and have lived in 10 different places and by far this is our favorite. Check out Woodmen Hills, Meridian Ranch, The Gables, Falcon Hills. You have subdivisions but you are located in horse country which I love!

Yes there is. It's called Falcon Meadow RV Campground ( RV camping and campground in Falcon, Colorado - Falcon Meadow RV Campground). Nice people there. He's a second generation owner of the place. It's right on Hwy 24 just before you reach Falcon itself.
