My husband and I are hoping to move to Colorado Springs in the summer. I am a first grade teacher in Pennsylvania, with seven years of experience plus a master's degree and administration certificate. I have done some research on the school districts in the area. I have especially looked at District 20 and 49.

How difficult is it to a find teaching job in the Springs?
What district/s are the best to work in? ( I am looking down the road to when we have kids and where I want to live as well)
Will my experience help or hurt me? And will my salary begin as a new
teacher or will they take my experience into consideration? (I dont want to
take a pay cut if possible and what I have been looking at, it seems I may)
How are the benefits in Colorado?

Please help! THANKS...

District 49 has a middle school crowding problem right now. They are working on a solution and my guess is that it's going to involve additional teachers. Their website is Home.

But, with impending massive budget cuts, there could very well be a hiring freeze all over Colorado next year, regardless of need. We'll see.

If you search the previous threads on this, you will find that I have linked each website a few times over. D49 will give you a unique school schedule- I really like it. However, the pay across each district is pretty much the same. You are fortunate to come in with only 7 years because the school districts will only credit you up to 8 on the pay chart. You will make about 44K a year with a Masters and 7 years. D8 won't have a hiring freeze- they budget a bit differently and even have Christmas bonuses every year. However, D49 is likely to have a freeze and D20....wait and see around Spring Break, when they start posting positions. That would be around mid-March.

D11 honors up to 14 years experience on its pay chart - I think that's more than anyone else around.

No, it's been that way as long as I've been teaching.

Yeah it is nice. It was something negotiated by the Teacher's Association in the 70's or 80's....

Default Looking for Elem ELL teacher position in Falcon 49 or Academy 20

I am also looking for a job in the northern CO Springs area. I'm a licensed ECE and ELL teacher relocating from the Denver area. I've taught ELL in Adams county for two years now. Are there likely to be jobs in 49 or 20 for ELL teachers? From the Falcon 49 site, it looks like there are some Title 1 and ELL schools. Anyone have info on Evans International? I am attending the CASE job fair next month in CO Springs. Thanks for any additional info!
