Hubby is in the army and we are pcsing to Carson! We are looking to rent a home. And at least a 4 bedroom house! I am getting a lot of conflicting information in regards to neighborhoods in Colorado Springs. We are very interested in Fountain. But what other areas are nice? I have heard Stratmoor Hills isn't good neither is the Pikes Peak area? We had found decent rentals in both areas but we need a good neighborhood we have three children in school! We also would like to be somewhat close to Carson. Can you guys help me?

TIA

Stratmoor Hills I think is okay, better than Stratmoor Valley. I'm not sure what you mean by Pikes Peak area. However, I would personally recommend you avoid homes in Harrison District 2 since you have kids of school age. It is known as one of the worst school districts in the area - but that doesn't mean they have horrible schools - kids CAN get a decent education there. Near Fountain there is also Widefield/Security - similar price, neighborhood etc., as Fountain and also very close to Ft. Carson. If you've got a little more money, you could also consider Broadmoor Bluffs, and Cheyenne Mountain District 12 areas - they are also close to Carson.

Thanks for your reply! See I found a house we really want but it is in Stratmoor Hills on Milburn Drive. They say the school is Stratmoor hills. We really like the house. But my hubby deploys a lot so I want to be in a good area. Is that area far from Carson?

It is close to Carson. Stratmoor Hills is a Harrison District school. It is an okay/average area.

I agree with the poster who said to stay away from district 2. My SIL used to live in Fountain. She lived right down the street from Jordahl Elementary. It was a nice little neighborhood and a good school.

I would stay away from Milburn Drive, I looked at houses in that neighborhood it looked a little rough. Fountain, Widefield, and Security are better areas to live in with access to Ft. Carson.

Pikes Peak area = Pikes Peak Park. Ick, no, heeeeeeck no.

Fountain and Widefield are great for families. Going up north on Powers, north of Palmer Park is good and it really isn't that bad of a commute to Carson, depending on the schedule. I had several army people that commuted from Briargate to Ft. Carson that lived in my 'hood before I moved last spring. So, while that's a longer commute, that's doable too.

Widefield schools are seemingly pretty good as is District 49. IMO, Harrison School District is not that good as far as the districts locally are so you can use that as a bit of a guide. District 11 schools are dependent on the area of town. District 12 is outstanding as is District 20.

Good luck and welcome to Colorado Springs.
