I'm a big fan of Front Range BBQ down in Old Colorado City- I even bought their cookbook today when we went there for my husband's birthday. I was curious, though, to some other good BBQ recommendations others may have? I have heard that Blue Dog (Blue Bird? Blue something, at least) in the northeast part of town is good, but I haven't tried it.

Of course, typically awesome bbq is found on my grill, but sometimes I am lazy!!

Front Range was voted #1, Bird Dog was #2, and Ruby's was #3 in latest csindy.com best of Colorado springs.

I personally love Texas roadhouse. Love love their ribs and rolls! Front range is good too.

The Firehouse on Colorado, a few blocks West of downtoen is outstanding, and locally owned.

I vote with Maynerd ... The Firehouse is pretty good. I had a few complaints when I ate there, more about our waiter not properly sharing/warning just how hot (spicy) a side dish really was. We had a fantastic smoked chicken soup and everything else was quite tasty.

There's also a Famous Dave's BBQ off N. Academy and Razorback. I've never had a bad meal there.

There's also a Red, Hot and Blue off N. Academy..not so nuts about that one.

Bird Dog! That's the one I was thinking of. At least I got a couple words right I'll have to check out the Firehouse as well. I do love good BBQ. Thanks all!

Went to Front Range last week; tried the Bird Dog today. Both were great. Bird Dog has good sized portions and the meat is fresh and moist. Front Range has the atmosphere (very funky) that goes with good BBQ. It's what the Red, Hot and Blue chain tries to emulate (unsuccessfully). Haven't been to the local RHB, but used to be a regular at several of their locations in the DC area. Best way to describe them was uneven. I used to try to get there early for lunch. If you get there early, the meat is fresh and moist. Later, it tends to be dry and full of fat. At least that was my experience. I'll have to give the local RHB a try.

Front Range isn't that great of BBQ if you are from the south. I can't think of the guy's name but he runs a food truck in front of Rocky Mountain Brewery near Platte. He has some of the best BBQ in town. He is also the only one I know of that offers burnt ends. Go have a burnt end sandwich and see how you compare his food to Front Range or Bird Dog.
