I do like the Colorado springs view the best. I have to say I'm not really a big fan of the Boulder flat iron mountain kind of look. Some of the pictures from Longmont look really nice, but it does look much further away.

Example: Longmont

I know you could drive into RMNP or similar, but it would be a bit of a hike every time to do it. I've been into that park a few times, it seems like it would be endless hiking trails with as how big it is.

Example Boulder:

I wouldn't say the schools are terribly underfunded at all. Coming from California, Colorado Springs schools are great with many schools in near proximity to each other which equals much smaller class sizes than we face in California and many other states. The measures they're taking to cut costs will not be so dramatic to residents at this point.
I also would say calling people "loons" because they don't fit a liberal mode is rather small minded and biased.
Other than that, the Springs is full of very friendly people.

California spends more per pupil than does Colorado. But, maybe they have more expenses, too.

I visited Fort Collins (from COS) for the very first time yesterday with my boys due to an event that they had to attend at Fort Collins High School. As soon as we got out of the car, you can smell "rural" in the air. I said to my boys, "I love the smell of cow dungs in the air first thing in the morning..."

When I attended CSU Fort Collins we always blamed that smell on Greeley.

It doesn't matter how much is spent, it's how well it is used.

Honestly, I think comparing the two towns is like comparing apples to oranges.

Default compare to Fort Collins?

Hi,
My husband and I are looking to relocate from San Jose, CA with our 3 kids. We visited Denver and suburbs, the Boulder area, and Fort Collins, but didn't have time for Colorado Springs. Out of the places we did visit, we really came away wanting to live in Fort Collins. We didn't feel that any of the other places felt right, if that makes any sense. As soon as we drove into Fort Collins we both had the feeling that it was right for us. We also have friends there which is a big huge plus. Good schools, parks, and safe neighborhoods are a priority. However, hunting for jobs (anywhere) right now is tough, especially in such a small place. We are considering opening up the search to Colorado Springs, but we have never been there. How does it compare to Fort Collins? How are the neighborhoods and schools? Are people generally rushed there, or is it laid back? Anyone familiar with Fort Collins who can compare the two? Thanks so much!

i think fort collins is nicer. fort collins is more of the future for high tech jobs where colorado springs is losing tech population fast. college towns also have more to offer with local restaurants/stores. springs is a wal-mart town for sure, and people are pretty closed minded about trying new things and supporting local businesses. springs has a lot of call center jobs, military, and tourism.

I personally cannot stand Fort Collins, too many people in too small a place, less diversity than the springs and much worse traffic. The culture of the town does not jive with me, I don't like it at all.
