Looking at a house in Trinidad, Co. I've been searching the net all day trying to figure out what types of store are in town, or how far to the closest town with store I'm used to.
So...is there a
Lowes or Home Depot? (home improvement stores)
Sporting goods store?
A Mall? (can live without it, rarely go except for Pennys)
A Movie theatre (there again, rarely go now that we have netflix)
Book Store?
Best Buy or other large electronics store?
SAMs club or Costco? (we have a business so visit it at least monthly)

If not...what's the closest town with such stores?

Wink NM for culture, Wal-Mart or Pueblo

Someone local can provide a more detailed answer, but I feel fairly safe in saying for much of that you've listed you'll be out of luck in Trinidad. The go-to place will be Wal-Mart, which they do have. Something more major than that will require a long drive to Pueblo or Colorado Springs.

There are a number of small shops and restaurants, with which I have little familiarity. In total you'll probably find your daily needs fairly well met in town. Something of a mirror image of small-town shopping in Trinidad that in Raton, NM, on the other side of the pass. The difference there is they have a K-Mart, instead of Wal-Mart, or at least used to. Wal-Mart would prove the better alternative, with likely little reason for you to visit Raton, unless you just wish to.

Beyond that, to the south, you have a long if fairly easy drive to Santa Fe, NM. True city shopping another 50 minutes or so further south down I-25 in Albuquerque. New Mexico offers certain aspects of culture Colorado cannot match. But for shopping, by and large, it will probably end up Trinidad, or Pueblo.

Pueblo is the closest town to Trinidad with a Lowe's or Home Depot. Pueblo is about 80 or so miles north of Trinidad. There is a mall there too, but Colorado Springs is easily worth the additional 30-45 minute drive for a much wider range of choices.

You have your daily needs met plus it has some of the neatest western restaurants. Plenty of entertainment but buying needs will be Pueblo. Here where I live I drive 30 minutes into a walmart and to the most boring town on earth with basically fast food junk so if I need something I have a 2 hour drive to Tulsa whereas in Trinidad you have a very interesting town lots to see and do and Pueblo is only 1 hour away.
