I'll be in Farmington, New Mexico next month and we were thinking of driving up to Durango. The problem is that I tend to get motionsickness on roads with lots of curves or dips (nothing helps if the road is windy), and I'm also a bit scared of roads with a big drop-off at the side. From what I can tell looking around online, I would encounter those things if we took 550 from Farmington.

However, if we took La Plata up to Hesperus and then went over to Durango on 160, would it be a basically non-windy road with no areas where you have a drop-off to the side?

On a side note, I have knee problems and we basically would be going just to see the scenery. Is the town laid out with various attractions or shops that you can just drive up to and walk in, no stairs required? We may just go to the hot springs if that's easily accessible.

Thanks for any help!

Finally, someone on this forum who tells the truth.

The road from Farmington to Durango isn't scary. It's really not that curvy either. I suppose that you should go at least once to say that you have. The hot springs ARE nice, and the train is an interesting bit of history. But other than that, there really isn't that much to do and see there.

The train will give Booster a guarenteed heart attack. those 500 feet straight down dropoffs are not for the faint of heart.

You can always go out to the shiprock and four corners. I think they're pretty neat to see.
