What if the employer insists on a that day or next day interview and you were in Ohio for example?

After the potential employer checks over your application or resume' they see you are employed out-of-state and calls you on it. What would you say then?

I'd simply tell them that all's fair when trying to get a job.

Ultimately any employer that wants to get that up in your bidness, is not someone I want to work for. My personal life is really none of their concern. What is, is whether or not I can do the job and do it well.

Well I think those days are over-I look for jobs in Colorado and I notice "in state applicants only." or "no phone calls please" I think employers know they have the upper hand and don't care-I agree if I can do the job and I'm not asking for relocation who cares where I live now?

They probably want someone who can start right away so why look outside the local market?

Maybe...maybe not. If you make an ass-umption like this you can never know with certainty.

People miss the point. If a prospective employee is willing to LIE to his or her potential employer about where he or she really lives, what else is he or she willing to lie about? I've hired and fired a lot of people over the years. There are a lot of transgressions I might excuse, but bald-facing lying to me is not one of them. I've caught people lying during interviews, including about their residency. When I catch a candidate in such an out-and-out lie, the interview is over right then. No job--period, ever.

I agree and that is the point I am trying to make-I don't like to lie to anyone....much less my future employer-that is why if you are going to move somewhere and you aren't getting any responses from your resume' why go to all the trouble to set up a fake in state phone number? To me it seems sneaky, and when I received the phone interview and I was honest, HR should have let me finish my sentence. But again, all is fair.

Good point Cosmo but that hasn't been my experience with CO or NM employers. Maybe Not works back East better than here I think.
