If you are doing well in your current location you'll probably do just as good or better here. If you are strugglung where you're at, you'll probably struggle here too. If you are brand new to real estate, I imagine that you would go through a period of struggle wherever you are, until you learn the ins and out of the profession & the get a handle on the local market.

Being successsful or not being successful is up to you.

Go to RealtyTimes and read what this local agent says about current market conditions in Grand Junction:

My aunt is a real estate agent in Grand Junction. She has worked as an agent there since the early 80s. Although there is major growth and development occuring in Grand Junction currently, the economy there is highly cyclical and alot of the growth is occuring as a result of the western slope oil boom. The real estate market crashed there once back in the 80s as the oil industry collapsed, and sent the Grand Junction area into a major recession. Just be cautious.

I love Grand Junction, it's a beautiful area. Just be careful about making a real estate career there- according to my aunt, the market is oversaturated.

Good luck!

As a Grand Junction resident, I would tend to agree with downtownnola, there are so many realtors it's crazy, many of them leaving the big companies and starting their own smaller companies. The market itself is booming, homes going under contract in days. Prices keep climbing and they are selling, but you never know with energy being the driving force!! Good luck, it is a good ole boy community!

Just because someone believes the market is oversaturated doesn't mean that you can't or wont be successful.

If you know what you're doing, and you work your butt off you'll probably be successful anyway. On the other hand, if you don't know what you're doing, and you never do any work, you probably wouldn't be successful even if you were the only agent in town. Like I stated earlier, it's really up to you.

good luck...Franco

If the GJ economy is based that much on Oil & Gas Exploration & Production, it should be set for some time, although I'd be the first to admit those have been famous last words more than once in the past.
And with these historically high oil prices we've been seeing, there is renewed talk of the Oil Shale Boom returning which might be an added impetus to the GJ economy ?

Okay, so I have what is probably a totally naive question...

>>the economy there is highly cyclical and alot of the growth is occuring as a result of the western slope oil boom.<<

RE implications aside, what exactly are the implications of living in an O & G development town? We're coming from Chicago so we have no notion of what that means...big oil drills around? Lots of corruption? Contamination or spills?
Thanks for any thoughts!
Lisa

No, the oil and gas development is happening up valley probably 30 - 40 miles outside of Grand Junction. You see lots of trucks headed out that way, but no contamination, spills at all. No corruption, in fact what has happened is the unemployment rate is at an all time low, you would have a hard time not finding a job, but there aren't many high paying jobs to be found. The industry is taking lots of people out of our city, but the drilling is not happening here. Hope that helps, just a local who reads the paper and knows the basics.
