I'm shocked again, wind chills of -20 to -30 in the warm tropical "banana belt" of Colorado. Ice, snow, wind, I thought that just never happened and everyone down there always basked in warm breezes all winter long.

Started snowing here about 3:30pm around 6" so far in town. Several accidents this evening on Hwy 550 and Hwy 62, and avalanches on Red Mountain Pass have trapped a tourist bus and some cars. No wind and not especially cold. I'll take measurements tomorrow and photos around town.

And what is the temperature in Pueblo this morning at 8:00a.m.? Um, how about -2? Could be worse though, am watching Fox 31 morning show right now. Denver is showing -11 as of 8:00 this morning. And the wind chills out on the plains this morning? Nasty. Dangerous. How about -46 in Limon? Everyone be extra careful out there today and be thankful you don't live out in the heartland states. Like I said yesterday, not a huge snow maker here, but that doesn't apply east of Colorado. Whew!

I love it when Mother Nature forces my family to take a break! I have a big pot of vegetarian chili simmering on the stove, a stack of books and a warm blanket awaiting me on the couch, and a warm, peaceful house. I hope all of you are also able to enjoy this respite from the hurry-scurry of life. But if you must be at work today, THANK YOU for braving the frigid temperatures in the service of others. ...FC

A lot of parents seem to be taking advantage of this "no school" situation to take their kids to the doctor for well visits, problems that have been going on for weeks and months, stuff like that.
