Both triggered with a common event. Cold air pushing in the mountains can bring snow to the high country even yet at this time of year. Then that cold air pushes out onto the plains and collides with that warm "juicy" air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico. Classic setup for severe supercell thunderstorms that can produce vicious hail and possible tornadoes. You can bet the storm chasers will be headed for the "convergence zone," wherever that happens to be.

we were camping last night in Pike National Forest at 9000 feet, we had off an on rain, some downpours. Then this morning the temperatures dropped a bit more and there was a rain/snow mix.

OKAY folks...Summer began a little more than an hour ago @ 11:16 AM. Maybe, just maybe, we will have no reason to post in this thread for a few months, but I'm not holding my breathe. With the beginning of Summer also comes the inexorable march toward winter. Tomorrow we'll have a few seconds less daylight than we have today.

Yeah it is definitely alot easier getting out of bed @ 5:15 AM when it's not pitch black outside. A little bit of early morning light goes a long way for boosting morale.
