Hi, my dad wants to check out Rocky mountain autumn scenic view and I noticed that it already snowed in CO. Is it that cold in CO and too late for scenic view? I live in NJ so I have no idea... Can someone please let me know whether there are still places to check out for autumn scenic views? Thanks in advance!

Yes. I passed through last weekend, and things looked pretty much finished.

Although behind my house, things are still looking pretty yellow on the Grand Mesa.

The aspen foliage is all above 7500 ft typically and you have to go to specific places to see it. I would describe it as an inexact science.

Depends on the year and the location but peak from my experience is from Sept 10-25. After that it starts to get sketchy and all it needs is one snow fall or high wind day and any leaves that have turned get stripped off. By early October there might be some spots still at peak but I'd say by now Oct 14, 80-90% of the state is mostly done.

Last year when I came back home to Vail on Oct 4th, there was still some color but by the end of the week it was all pretty much gone and the trees were bare.

Usually the first isolated color I would see on trees in shaded valleys would be between August 6th to August 20th.

The autumn colors were gorgeous in southern CO last week when I drove up from Santa Fe.
The leaves seem to be hanging on much longer this year because of a late freeze. You can still find some pockets of color here and there, but you are most definitely past peak, sorry.

Have him come to Virginia later this month instead. The Blue Ridge will be beautiful then.

The leaves are still changing colors here in Colorado Springs. In the mountains the peak season is over. Plenty of beautiful fall colors up there in the NE right now.

Pretty much done in the mountains--though they did last longer than normal this year.

Wink Color

The colors are fabulous, right now, this moment. Some trees are barren, others in full color. Very much a beautiful mixture of all stages.

I am speaking specifically of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Trail Ridge Road (12,183 feet) has been closed a couple times briefly already due snow, surely soon closed for the winter. The higher peaks have retained much of the new snow. Thus at higher elevations many of the deciduous trees will have already lost their leafs. But there are still magnificent yellows, oranges and reds to be seen, if at times a willow changing near a river.

Cottonwoods and others are in full color right now in Ft. Collins. Some yet still in shades of green. Thus in looking and driving, seeking different elevations and places one will be rewarded.

A lovely time of year, and now all the more transient.

I did the peak to peak highway yesterday, and will be on Bear Lake Road in Rocky Mountain NP today...staying in Loveland last night. Fall colors here are not what they are back each to begin with...since hre you mostly have evegreen trees, rather than deciduous. However, yesterday I still saw plenty of lovely stands of aspen, although they were past their peak. There were places they were bare, other places they were still quite pretty. The weather in this area is ideal -- in the mid-60s everywhere I went yesterday, except when I drove up to the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel, where it was 57 degrees. When I arrived in Estes Park yesterday afternoon it was approaching 70.
