Somewhere, you surely have a long lost cousin in Weeki Wachee, Florida.
There are rumors circulating that the original inhabitants of Weeki Wachee and Saguache were aliens from a planet near the center of the 5th dimension called We-come-watchie-u.

At least we don't have cities with names like Boca Raton--really nice to say you're from "Rat Mouth" Florida.

I was going to start a thread about this but there already is one!

I pronounce it "Co-lo-ra-do" and I'm a native. I speak Spanish and I know the Spanish pronunciation I'm not speaking Spanish when I say what state I'm from.

To me the way I pronounce it is the only way it should be pronounced. There is no choice as to a correct way. Anybody who pronounces it "Co-lo-rah-do" I immediately peg as a transplant who thinks they're pronouncing it correctly. But they're not.

There is a guy on the local PBS station who used to pronounce it like a transplant and it drove me nuts. He interviewed some Colorado native geologist who had fascinating stories to tell about our state. He pronouced it "Colorado" so many times that by the end of the interview the radio guy actually started saying it correctly. Now he's back to somewhere in-between but it's a start.

Doesn't that mean Raton Pass is just a nice way to say "rat gap?"
