The richer a country is the cleaner is. The best thing you could hope for is cheap energy. Our country has never been this clean. To set back progress at the expense of each individual (we all pay for higher energy costs) is just plain stupid. The world needs energy. Would you rather have that produced here with some of the highest environmental standards in the world or would you prefer it done in countries with no standards at all? Either way supply is going to meet demand.

As far as humungous profits are concernd take a closer look at the profit margin of the oil industry. It averages 6-8%. If you've got an issue with that you'd better be out there boycotting Apple, Google, etc... with their 20%+ profit margin.

Compared to the industrial years in the 1800's and a lot of the stuff that went on last century, it's pretty darn clean for 310 million people.

I was shocked to hear the frackers dispose of their waste (a mix of water, sand and methane and other gases) by injecting it at high pressure to the depth of 13000ft! How lazy and dangerous.

When future generations can't farm the land, can't drink the water, and have difficulty breathing, we can tell them that fracking was good for the economy!

36 households in PA having a group delusion that their wells were contaminated by fracking:

News and Talk of Sonoma County

This could never happen in Colorado, where fracking is practiced safely.....because the technology is now sooooooo advanced. Did I mention that I have a fantastic oceanfront lot for sale in Grand Junction. Have I got a deal for you!

So why can't they farm the land, drink the water or what exactly do they have trouble breathing from?

People make this big wide claims with no basis in reality.

Wink Three fracking violations near Fort Collins

"Three oil and gas rules violation notices were issued to two oil companies operating near Fort Collins this week." [1]

The issue seems to be with the integrity of their well casings. Proponents of fracking often cite the deep depths plumbed, supposedly below groundwater that might be contaminated. There still remains the issue of aquifers, the latent effects of exploding the underlying geology, resultant earthquakes and so forth. But if the well casings are less than perfect then you can expect to get fracking fluid into surface or near-surface groundwater.

Oil companies like to proclaim how safe fracking can be. Maybe it largely is in some instances. But aside from outright dumping massive amounts of contaminated and toxic fracking fluid into rivers—which has been done on occasion—then just the oversight now and then. Such as in this instance.

In Colorado. Possibly your neighborhood.

Your statement makes me wonder what reality you live in.

The water issue is rather widespread. Certainly you've heard about it! I'll repost the link ( from my post 126 ) to one of the many stories about polluted water associated with fracking: Residents of Pa. drilling town near settlement

If the water becomes seriously contaminated, farming could be negatively impacted.

Air pollution associated with drilling has not gotten much press, but here's an article to take a look at: CSU hopes to study drilling emissions in Garfield County | News - Home
