If our very dry and warm weather pattern does not change soon, that's all just wishful thinking.

I drove by Loveland last night at midnight at it was still 37 degrees. A bit warm for snowmaking. From what I could see from the road, there were not many snow piles on the run they usually open first. Could be a late season this year.

Default Loveland Ski Area to open Sunday!

Loveland Ski Area to open for the season Sunday, Arapahoe Basin to open Monday, beating Arapahoe Basin by one day.

This is the second year in a row that Loveland will be the first Colorado resort to open for the season.

In 2009, Loveland opened on Oct. 7. Business operations director Rob Goodell says warm weather delayed the opening this year.

A run covering 1,000 vertical feet will be open Sunday, and the resort plans to be open daily.

Sunday River in Maine opened for the season Friday but wasn't planning to be open on weekdays yet. Timberline Lodge and Ski Area in Oregon started its season Oct. 1, but lifts are running only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October, weather permitting.

A-Basin plans to open for the season Monday.

Default Colorado Dusting

The snow came in the last couple of days here in the CO high country- we have had between 10-15 inches the last couple of days at my workplace (Henderson Mill) on Ute Pass near the border of Grand/Summit County-a good Oct "dusting" I would say,but nothing too unusual.

Many pass closures yesterday-a real white out driving back to Heeney yesterday pm and drifting around as well, There are many hunters out there-hopefully no one was caught by surprise, it seems to happen every year in the high country.

A-basin had a good opener-

Default Summit Co Resorts

Today is the season opener for Copper Mountain. 1 lift running and some serious traffic on the main run. I've seen two good yard sale wipeouts so far!
At least the snow will be soft with a forecast high of 51 deg.
Copper now has 2 lifts running and it is possible to get away from the traffic and get some soft snow up top.
Lots and lots of ski racers on the hill so make sure to look up hill so you don't get run over!
Get Some!

Keystone
Early season skiing can be like ice skating downhill through rush hour traffic. Keystones main gondola picks up at the end of center village and can be a long wait. I suggest you walk a little further and take the quad highspeed lift to the top. Once on the gondola it will take you about half an hour to get to the top! versus 15 min or so on the quad lift and the lines are shorter.
The terrain park up top for jibbers has quite afew features but you really have to be aware of your surroundings as not to get run over or hit by a skier or boarder coming out of nowhere. The rails and jibs are close to each other.

The flatter sections of the main run have good snow but beware that the steeper slopes are riddled with patches of pure ice...especially troublesome for snowboarders. The main run funnels all of the skiers to the base at a steep bottleneck so once again be careful and look up hill if crossing over the run.
Until more lifts open up it is impossible to get away from the crowds. 2 people in my group got hit from behind in a 3hr period.
If your are a beginning snowboarder.....stay away from Keystone this early season, it is slick, really congested and just not much fun.
Be aware, safe, look out for yourself and always look up hill to not get taken out by a zooming or out of control rider above you.
This time of year the best time to hit the slopes is definitely during the week.
Cheers
