We lived in Basalt for 5 years and made less and then more than $120k. We lived comfortably, bought a townhome in Willits, built a house in Willits, rented the townhome out blah, blah, blah. Basalt and Carbondale are both great communities I think you would be fine in either. Basalt is a bit closer but River Valley Ranch has great family amenities and some very nice homes. We did live in Aspen when we first moved there, but the winters are just a little too long there for me. We moved in to a house there in November and it was April before I realized we had a paved driveway.
