Default Snowboarding in April??

Hey all,
I'm from louisiana and am planning a quick trip April 16-19th for snowboarding. I'm considering going to CO. Just curious of what people think the conditions will be like for A-basin, loveland, copper mtn? Should I look elsewhere?

Thanks,

David

March and April are Colorado's snowiest months.

The higher up you go, the better the conditions. It can be very sloppy/slushy at the bottom that late in the season. A Basin might be your best bet.

You could try looking at the skiing/boarding magazines; maybe they have their own recommendations based on past experience. "Favorable conditions" depends on what the weather chooses to do. Usually A Basin is the last resort in Colorado to close. That doesn't mean that the conditions are the best, but it does mean that you can still ski/board in the late Spring. The previous posters have given a few pointers.

You might want to join a snowboarding forum for better info. Not sure if I can post the links here so just do a Google search. There are many.

Ned....you can post such links here....provided they're not commercial sites that sell stuff, etc.

Snowboarding fans can post all they want here too, so long as the TOS are honored. Using our search tool will find hundreds of posts and/or threads on snowboarding.

For starters check the closing dates for all the resorts via their websites. Usually once they get into this time of year they should start to have an idea what closing day will be and if the resort is based on National Forest Service land they have a say in it as well, so the land can recover for the summer.

A-Basin and Loveland of course are open longer but it really depends on the weather. In my experience the 2nd and 3rd week you can get some big storms, but then also if the sun is out and snow hasn't fallen for a while, it might be a mess. Copper Mountain will probably close sometime around those dates.

Realistically the ski business in Colorado is dead after the first weekend of April. The business rapidly winds down, people get their last licks in and you can't count on any weather.

I checked the closing dates and they're all closing after we get there. Copper is closing april 24th. I'm hoping to go to CO because it's the cheapest. Other areas i've considered are mount hood, mammoth mountain. I research on previous years, where people have reported good things, but I haven't read much about predictions for this year. I'll have to keep researching.
