Well now that IS kind of exciting. I found another source for this here (http://coloradoenergynews.com/2009/03/consortium-seeks-to-build-huge-solar-plant-east-of-pueblo/ - broken link).

Good Job, Joss. Tell us more about the when and the where on this. How many jobs this might bring to the area?

More good news for Pueblo..

¨¨The Pueblo Economic Development Corp. will have an announcement Monday about a company expanding in Pueblo, this is a tech company that will employ over 150 people!

Centa said PEDCo is working with 13 other companies that may be interested in moving to or expanding in Pueblo. One company, which works in wind energy, has narrowed its choices down to two locations in Pueblo.¨¨ My guess is that is the foundry that Vesta´s said they want to build in Pueblo.....

More information on Pueblo:

PUEBLO, Colorado, March 23, 2009 (ENS) - Colorado Governor Bill Ritter today praised the decision of a high-tech water purification firm to expand and add more than 100 new jobs in Pueblo.

"These are clearly difficult economic times around the world, around the country and around Colorado. Pueblo itself is no stranger to tough times," Governor Ritter said at a news conference." But even now, even as people are struggling, something exciting is happening here in Pueblo," he said.

A city of about 100,000, Pueblo is one of the largest steel-producing cities in the United States. The economic hub of southeastern Colorado, the city hosts a number of electronics and aviation companies and also is becoming the region's renewable and nuclear energy capital.

Default Depot solar project wins important nod

More good news. The next step is Xcel and we should know in April.

"Officials of a group that wants to build a solar energy installation at the Pueblo Chemical Depot think they could have gotten by with an interim lease from the depot’s reuse authority but are happy to have the agency’s endorsement, nonetheless."

Talking Pueblo group finalizing bid for depot solar park

This was in today's Pueblo Chieftain and is continued good news for the Pueblo area. As a side note I was watching FNC this morning and they had a map of the national power grid. Pueblo and Denver are the only two cities in Colorado with both north-south and east-west lines in the national system.

"A private-public consortium looking to build a major solar power park on Pueblo Chemical Depot land will meet Friday's bid deadline for Xcel Energy, the principals said Tuesday."

The company will be a supplier for the Vestas project that will be located in Pueblo, as well as to other potential clients. They are seeking approximately 56,000 SF of space (54,000 SF of manufacturing space; 2,000 SF of office space) on approximately 7 acres of land.

Default Utilities team up to build transmission lines

This was just in the news and is good news for southern Colorado as we want to attract more renewable energy companies.

"Xcel Energy and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association filed applications Thursday with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. The transmission lines would stretch from the San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado to Pueblo."

Default Another solar provider eyes empty depot land

This is great news for the Pueblo region and should help us come out of the current recession.

"Another potential solar energy provider is eyeing the Pueblo Chemical Depot’s sprawling acreage and proximity to power lines."

Talking Electric truck prototype passes road test

Some possible good news for Pueblo from the Boulder county Business Report!

"looking for a location for producing its pilot run and eventually assembly line for producing anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 vehicles per year.

We are looking at Pueblo"

Talking New York Times

This article really puts it in perspective why Pueblo is the alternative energy capitol. Look at this paragraph:

The new energy economy — a phrase Gov. Bill Ritter Jr., a Democrat, uses incessantly, to the point of parody by his critics — is playing out and paying off in places like Pueblo, which is at the overlap of areas rich in potential for wind energy, stretching north into Wyoming, and for solar energy, extending south into New Mexico.

Pueblo is getting something a lot of towns don't get, a second chance at life. This next decade will be a interesting one around here.
