I finally went out and took pictures of the Parkview expansion at night. I just love how the building looks with all the lights. What a great addition the new tower is to downtown.

The building is pretty but I've never considered it in downtown but in Pueblo downtown doesnt really have an end or a start. it just sorta sprawls and jets out here and there with residences in between

Parkview was just recognized by U.S. World News and World Report. This is good for the hospital and city so I decided to post it here.

This is from the Parkview website:

US News and World Report recently announced the new listings for 2011/2012. Parkview Medical Center has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital in the areas of:

Ear, Nose & Throat.
Nephrology
Neurology & Neurosurgery
Orthopedics
Pulmonology

Parkview Medical Center is the only facility in Colorado, south of Denver to receive this designation in five specialty areas. US News & World Report selected only 140, out of the 4,825 hospital that were evaluated, to be ranked as high performing in one or more of the 16 specialty areas.

The link: Parkview Medical Center - Pueblo, Colorado

A dear friend of mine was ambulanced to Parkview from Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad, and remained in ICU for 2 weeks, with another week on a "regular" floor -- with life-threatening complications from a potent strain of e-coli.

The care that she received (and that ultimately saved her life) was superlative! From doctors to nurses to therapists, everyone we came into contact with was professional, compassionate, friendly, and highly skilled. Someone in upper management regularly strolled through the ICU waiting room asking if we needed anything. A representative from the Financial Aid Office offered encouragement, information, and support.

Even though I tend to operate outside the realm of mainstream medicine, I told everyone I know that if I ever need to be hospitalized, I want to go to Parkview. And I'm not alone. A number of other families I know down here will willingly head toward Pueblo when time permits, even though the facility is about 130 miles away. Perhaps the values demonstrated there reflect the fact that the hospital is run by a nonprofit organization and not a corporation.

People who live in or near Pueblo are fortunate to have such a fine medical facility in their backyards.

My mom had cancer in her lung and they removed half her lung there at Parkview and she's alive and well today... 6 years out. That was with no chemo and no radiation. She was on oxygen for a while, hated it, and now does fine without it.

Now... that organization ripped me off for 8 grand... but that's another story for another day.

Memorial in CosSprings is even better.

Very inspirational stories from both of you.

As far as Memorial versus Parkview. I am not qualified to say what hospital is better but I find it interesting that only Parkview Medical Center received a High Performing Hospital in 5 specialty areas south of Denver.

I know this is a just a dream but personally I would like the CSU system to start a medical school at CSU Pueblo like CU has in Denver. Then work with Parkview Medical Center and change its name to CSU Medical Center - Pueblo.
