But good news for Pueblo. The central and northern parts of the Front Range have benefited tremendously from the O&G boom, nice to see Pueblo get some economic growth from it as well.
You could be right and we agree the impact on Pueblo will be good.

So it looks like Pueblo will get a new steel mill!

It will be built by Evraz and next to the current mill. The cost will be closed to $500 million and employ 1,000 people and will be the most advanced rail mill in the world.

The impact it will have on Pueblo will be great as the 3 to 1 ratio will mean 3,000 secondary jobs plus construction jobs.

This is from KRDO:

Evraz announced plans to build a 21st century rail mill bringing in hundreds of well-paying jobs with it. The Pueblo Economic Development Corp says it would bring in 1,000 jobs that pay between $60,000 to $65,000. However, the company is still deciding where to build the mill. Colorado is competing against other states.

You are overlooking two important points from the article:

1) However, the company is still deciding where to build the mill. Colorado is competing against other states.

and

2) Evraz has until December 2019 to make a final decision.

So it looks like Pueblo will get a new steel mill!

I hope it happens, and that it happens in Pueblo where they have people who know how to run and work in a mill.

Taking the view of an investor I'd be curious about there being sufficient demand to be running two rail mills. If not, does the old one shut down and reduce the overall employment gains? Those nasty old dastardly details....

Having spent most of my career in transport, I worry that our country still lacks a national transportation policy (NTP). Having an NTP would spell out priorities for federal spending, i.e., help finance rail expansion to get long distance trucks off overcrowded interstates and ameliorate a shortage of at least 50K long haul semi-truck drivers.

In the absence of an NTP, we still haven't seen even the promised infrastructure bill that would throw $1T at transport. Our national leadership has spent it's time passing a $1T tax cut for the obscenely rich (who did not need it) and argue endlessly on who may pee in which restroom or which means of birth control, if any, should be legally available. With the congress we have, all I see is a slow rolling disaster and national decline.

Good point mike on 2 rail mills. I would not be surprised if they build the new advanced mill and merge the old one making one large mill. Then keeping the orher aspects of the mill the same.

After living through the 80’s and the steel collapse if someone told me in 2018 this would be happening I would of laughed. Yet here we are. Boom times indeed that combined with what else is going on with mj and green energy will mandate significant growth in Pueblo by 2030.

I hope these are not the same "sources" that you quoted as saying that the proposed baseball stadium downtown was a for sure thing!

It should have been a sure thing.

We have an election for Mayor coming up in about 10 days. Letting yet one more business venture in Pueblo go down in a firey crash should help determine who does and who does not win that election. I guess we'll see if Pueblo intends to vote in a firey crash or a go-getter.

I completely agree. There is so much going on in Pueblo now we need a mayor who can build on it and bring major developments to downtown.
