There's a thread about the San Luis Valley here http://www.city-data.com/forum/color...ease-tell.html

Some people consider it a barren expanse of sage brush that gets very cold in the winter. Personally, I think it has its redeeming aspects, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Check the area out if you haven't already.

The SLV can be loved or otherwise. I bought and built a pole barn and have enjoyed my time in the area. It is kind of wild and remote. I will soon be making regular trips from Denver.

I'm sure it has some of the cleanest air and water that one can find.

I responded to one of your other posts a few minutes ago.

If you do not enjoy the desert, or desert areas in CO, than you will not the like the San Luis Valley. Its a high desert valley that sits above 7,000 feet between the San Juan and Sangre De Cristo Mtns. Plenty of sagebrish, yucca, greasewood, etc. Also, has the Great Sand Dunes as well, which are always a nice touch to the SLV. So, if you don't enjoy the desert, you will hate SLV. I love the desert areas in CO, and i love the San Luis Valley.

However, its a cold desert, like most all the desert lands in colorado. The summertime temps are roughly in the low to mid 80's, and the winter time lows can hit 0 degrees quite often in this 7,000 foot elevation of desert.

Good luck! I love the GJ area. Its much more warm there than in the SLV Desert. However, the San Luis Valley truly is beautiful. Hope it all works for you!
