Moving to Colorado help. (Boulder: universities, living, tuition)

Hello, I currently live in Upstate New York, its horrible here. I have lived in Texas before this, and Louisiana before that and I love the people from both. I plan on moving to Colorado and going to Colorado University of Boulder but I just want to get information on living there. Are the people nice, in New York they are just snobby unpleasant people to be around and I hate people like this. I grew up with nice carring people, is Colorado in general like this? What parts are best live in? I have visited Colorado in the summer and its amazing, I heard the winters are awesome to but it can become a real drag. From when to when would you say the winter season is? When does the senery become green and warm again? Could I just get information like this about Colorado?

Oh yea, I also have heard alot about Colorado natives hating people from other states because they try to change Colorado, Im not like that, I love the way Colorado is and I defenitely wouldn't try to bring New York to Colorado, just throwing that in there.

If you don't like snobby Easterners, then CU is NOT the place to go to college. CU has a long-standing reputation as "the" place for Easterners and other out-of-stater's to go to college "out West." If you want a more "Colorado-centered" educational experience, look at Colorado State University, or one of the smaller state colleges in Colorado. At any of the Colorado colleges or universities, plan on absolutely getting hammered on out-of-state tuition. Colorado higher education, like all of Colorado government, is in severe fiscal distress, and raising out-of-state tuition drastically is one of the solutions being implemented. If you want a more real "true West" college experience, check out the University of Wyoming--it has a pretty good educational reputation for its size, and will more likely make a "Westerner" out of you. Wyoming is also in considerably better fiscal condition than is Colorado. Of course, the winters in Laramie are pretty long and brutal.

Winters in the lower elevations of Colorado are actually less snowy and cloudy than upstate New York, but are much more unpredictable--snow can occur anytime from September to May, but much of the winter is bare and brown in the lower elevations. All of the Front Range, but especially Boulder, can have periods of extreme wind in winter and spring (e.g., gusts to 60-100 mph are not uncommon during windstorms).

FWIW, I haven't experienced that at all since moving here last year. I've read a lot about it on this forum, and have read many posts that attempt to discourage others from moving here, but the people here are about as welcoming as anywhere else. I've noticed a lot more "native" stickers on people's cars here than other states I've lived in though.
