After living in Ridgway for the past 18 months, I've already grown weary of the winters, the long drive for groceries and services, and the insane cost of everything here. Found a nice house on some land in the country between Delta and Austin and in the process of moving. Delta is my other favorite town, and I've found the people there to be genuine and friendly. If I ever win the Lottery, I'll move back to Ouray County, but until then, I'll just visit often.

Ridgway is beautiful, but I can definitely see where it would be hard to live without independent wealth. At least you'll have no regrets! You had a chance to explore and see what it had to offer and it's only an hour or so drive when you want to visit. Sounds like you've found the place you want to be. Good luck Jim!

Good for you! Are you renting or did you buy it? Hope this all works out.

Jim, I admire your willingness to give it a whirl and find out first hand wether or not Ridgway was the right place for you. Now you know for sure! If you would have written it off from reading negatives about it on the forum, you'd still be wondering about it. On the bright side, your Ridgway location gave you the opportunity to discover the nearby Delta area, which seems to suit you better. And you're still just a hop step and a jump from Ouray county. Best wishes in you new endeavour.

Agreed. A good friend of mine lives on County Road 1 that overlooks the town of Ridgway, I visit him every other month.

I know where you're coming from. I've lived all over the state regarding out of town and out of state construction assignments but kept a condo in Littleton (now Centennial). When I bought property in the Grand Valley, I looked at Delta long and hard, as I have a few medical issues, but I felt the Junction area was a better fit. But I like Delta and always have.

And you're right Jim, there are a lot of friendly folks in Delta!

Looking forward to your posts about the new location.
I would love to spend summers in Ridgway (when retired) but I think I've seen and heard quite enough to know that we'd be a poor match for year-round ongoing living.
Best wishes on your move.
