Tell me what you can about Craig, Hayden, and all the other little towns around there.
Here is a google site for CO newspapers/college papers/magazines:
Colorado Newspapers - Colorado Newspaper List Steamboat Pilot, Craig Daily News, Moffatt County Morning News are area papers. Craig is in the current oil boom, though possibly on the fringe and not in the thick of it (I'm not sure), Hayden is very small. I think many people commute to Steamboat from Craig and Hayden and I'm pretty sure there is public transport daily, especially in ski season, between Craig and Steamboat. The drive over is easy, no big altitude rises between Craig and Steamboat. Housing is surely cheaper in Craig though the oil boom may have affected that by now. Good luck.

if you are headed to Steamboat, and are in construction, save your $$ for a long winter. Things come to a stop there. You might want to winter in Grand Jct or Ft Collins, if winter employment is necessary. BUT... if you can take the winter off... Steamboat is a great place to be. Hunting is quite good on the very north edge of western CO. good luck

Where every you look for housing, please factor in a hard and sometimes dangerous winter commute. You've picked a place with a winter about twice as nasty as anything St. Louis gets. A sturdy (solid enough to save you if/when you collide with a half-ton elk) 4-wheel drive with better-than-you-think-you'll-need snow tires could save your life. Also, maybe you could ask your new boss for recommendations about housing?
