Default We did it, we moved to Durango!

Some of you have been very supportive and I'd just like to say thanks for the extra nudge you gave us. We don't know a soul here but we knew this is where we want to be so we "loaded up the truck and we moved to"....Durango. We talked about such a move for years but always had an excuse. Finally, two months ago, we decided it was time and we finally arrived last week and though she couldn't catch on at Mercy (yet), my wife did get hired as an R.N. in Farmington, N.M. We're not fond of the 65 minute drive but it's a small price to pay to live in our nirvana. No more Kentucky heat and humidity, and no more letting life live us, we are in control of our own destiny. We found a great townhouse and the townspeople couldn't be nicer to a couple of outsiders. In the week that we've been here, we've: Jeeped the Ophir Pass across to Telluride, purchased, and began riding, mountain bikes, and today we inner tubed down the Animas for the first time. Our dog loves all the outdoors time too, something she lacked because of the extreme heat of KY. There is so much more to do here than we could have ever imagined, and we imagined a lot.
I hope I can inspire someone to fulfill their dreams as so many here have done for me. My favorite movie line, which comes from "The Shawshank Redemption", has been stuck in my brain for years, like a splinter, until I ultimately heeded the message: "Get busy livin', or get busy dyin, that's g**damn right."

I love it! I made a similar move to my dream location last year on this very day.

If there's a will, there's a way.....

Congratulations on making your dream happen! While the 65 minute drive isn't ideal, it's a start and hopefully your wife will find something closer to home in the next few years. Enjoy all that Durango has to offer and best of luck in your future!

Btw Kapetrich, Bend was our second choice, though it's not fair to call it that. We loved Bend equally, it's just too far for us to make the occassional drive to KY for weddings, funerals, and the like. Knowing the Oregon coast is only a three-ish hour drive away from Bend made the decision even tougher. Congrats on your new life, as well.

What do you think that 65min drive will be in the winter(snow)?

Funny enough, Durango was on my short list, ha! T'was a little too small for me, but it's practically impossible to beat that beauty. There's actually a section in Bend near Tumalo Falls I like to call "little Durango". All these jagged steep cliffs surrounding a valley....it's my favorite part of Bend....not sure if you know the area.....

As for being closer to the ocean. That definitely is a perk, but to make you feel better, the weather and water temperature don't lend themselves to much, if any, enjoyable swimming . Also, Durango's got the "better" weather....if more sun is "better", anyway. Both are little slices of heaven, imo.

Keep us updated as time progresses!

Congratulations!
I shudder to think of humidity in Kentucky- I think eastern Mass. is unbearable, worse every summer.
Looking forward to your posts.

Congrats on your move! Durango is a pretty neat place. I wouldn't mind living there but I'm happy in Grand Junction for now.

I moved out west from eastern Mass (Essex County) 15+ years ago. I could never move back east again. I probably should visit there more often, my mom still lives there.

C'mon out and join us brightdoglover!
