I like Pueblo West. IMO the further west you go the better. Unless you want more of a neighborhood feel. Our lot wasn't too expensive but spacious at 1.2 acre.
I'd kind of like to see some people come in any buy some of these existing homes and not just built a new one only to desert it in the next year or two. This isn't the Utopia of the planet here, but it's alright by me.
The fact that it's further from Denver is a good thing IMO
One thing that really annoys me about where we live is our lousey dirt roads. We live on one and have to drive one or two more dirt roads to get to our house. They come by and grade our road like once every two years. So don't even worry about getting your car aligned
Another thing is them prairie rats. They're bad out here. The rabbits are a nuisance too. It's dusty, it's windy, Paradise

I see there aren't many people on here with useful information on the area. I've lived in canon city, pueblo, and now pueblo west. Here's the deal. If you don't mind less trees, more prairie, occasionally high winds, then pwest is not going to bother you. It's a less populated, more spread out, and newer community. It's a quiet area, and crime isn't too bad. Most burglaries occur due to unlocked doors, including car theft and burglary. I like pueblo west because it's peaceful. My neighbors are all middle class outstanding people. It's in an excellent geographical location: close to Colorado Springs, Denver, within 10 hour drive of about 13 national parks, great water, great grocery stores, even the Walmart is really nice. The bad thing is the newer developments bring higher costs of utilities. But my utilities for a 4 bedroom home never go above 250ish. Housing is cheap, and there's pueblo lake state park ten minutes away from my home.
Canon city, don't move there. There's nothing to do there, and the town is experiencing a higher amount meth and heroin problems. The same goes for pueblo city. Violent crime is pretty bad there, which is why I bought in pueblo west. It may only be ten minutes away, but there's a nice buffer there. Every town has its issues, but p west is not too bad.

Also all of p- west is under covenance. And depending on where you but, you may or may not have a paved road. My house does.

Cañon City has many uses. One of my favorite mechanic's is out there, Hilltop grocery has some of the best meat around, Colon Orchards, the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, Le Petite Chablis, that Madness Pizzeria in the historic downtown area, etc.
If all you see is meth and heroin, you ought to go move to some remote place in Utah or Idaho or something.
