Hello! my wife and I will be participating in the Transrockies Run on Aug. 14-19th, 2012. We will be moving up to train at elevation starting June 1st. 2012. We will be there for 3-4 months. Should we rent a home or would it be more cost effective to bring up a nice RV for our stay in GODS country? We only have one real need and that is good high speed internet for our business and our boys schooling. We can afford to do what we want, but would like to be as cost effective as we can. Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom.

June is the start of the summer season in Vail/BC area ... and you're staying through August, which is a three-month stay. Given the current marketplace for townhomes and single family homes available for lease, you'd do very well to find a house. High speed internet service is readily available in the area.

From a practical standpoint, I don't see any advantage to living out of an RV in a more remote area down-valley over a SFH in Vail/BC ... especially if you have the budget to rent a place for three months on a month-to-month rental.

Month long summer rentals are readily available in Vail and somewhat in Beaver Creek($$$). A number of the property management companies in the valley will have listings of short term rentals available.

One summer when I was sick of employee housing and wanted my own place I rented though:

Vail Lodging Vacation Condo & Home Rentals - Affordable to Luxury from Vail Resort Rentals

It was pricey for my budget at the time($1200 a month) but I had a condo right in Lionshead village with easy access to everything. Fully furnished 2 bedroom, all utilities included. IRC they even came in and cleaned once a week. The only pain in the butt was parking. All I had to do every month was go in and pay the $1200. No lease.

It was a nice and easy deal and I'd do something similar again.

I would absolutely rent a house over living in an RV, 4 people, 1 very tiny bathroom for 3-4 months does not sound like a good time.

The Vail/Beaver Creek area is wonderful in the summertime, great farmer's markets, events, concerts, lots of outdoor oriented people and activities. If you don't feel the need to be specifically in Vail or BC, you might try expanding in the area to places like Minturn, Eagle-Vail, Avon, Wildridge (in Avon), Edwards (Homestead & Singletree neighborhoods), even as far a Eagle which is a great family town.

June is the beginning of the summer time season in Vail/BC area ... and you are remaining through August, the industry three-month stay. Because of the current industry for townhomes and single family houses readily available for lease, you'd prosper to locate a house. High-speed internet services are easily available in the region.

From the practical perspective, I do not use whatever benefit to living from a motorhome inside a more remote area lower-valley on the SFH in Vail/BC ... especially if you possess the budget to rent a spot for three several weeks on the month-to-month rental.

You will have a very hard time finding a place to set your RV up in The Vail area.
There is an RV park in Gypsum and one in Breck. Both are very expensive and pretty far from Vail proper. One option is Leadvile-Sugarloafin' RV park is pretty decent-not sure about wifi-but you will be at elevation (10000 ft). And there are plenty of high altitude runners who live there. Leadville is about 45 minutes from Vail.
