This is a tough one as both are very nice areas. Aspen is very cute with a nice downtown and GREAT restaurants. However if I am looking at the entire micropolitan area then I have to go with the Silverthorn area. They have great restaurants, better ski resorts a great lake and is closer to drive to from the front range.

Personally if it were me, I would choose Silverthorn because of the access to Denver if this was someplace I was going to live all year round.
But I prefer the nature and scenery in the Roaring Fork Valley, which I think is prettier and closer access to some interesting wildnerness areas ...

Great grandfather was Mayor of Breck..used to hold serious real estate holdings in Keystone.....vacationed and lived equally in both areas .... have strong roots in both ...I prefer Aspen to any where in Summit Co. I prefer Steamboat,Telluride neither of which is located in either Eagle,Summit,Pitkin CO.

The RFV has more of a diversity in altitude so it's easier to get warmer weather in the winter and cooler weather in the summer. My veggie garden was much happier in Basalt than it is in Avon. Our friends in Breck can't get their tomatoes to ripen at all, so I'll vote for RFV.

I don't ski, so it's just about beautiful scenery to me.. I prefer RFV, especially Glenwood Springs.
