Montrose does not have the glorious mountain views you see along the Front Range, but there is some beautiful country to be seen.

And a relatively short drive puts you in Ouray, or Telluride,
The scenery is terrific.
I would move to Montrose if I could, but my work requires me to be close to a major airport.

This thread is a little old now but...

I think Montrose is beautiful. One of the prettiest small towns around. If you live just a little south of town you get great views from every angle. We are close to everything you could ever want in the outdoors; Moab, Mountains, world class ski resorts, Colorado river, great rivers, ATV trails, hunting, lakes, cross X skiiing, amazing Jeeping. The choices are really limitless.

We have rented for over 3 years here in town as we wait to build or buy a house. We will end up somewhere south of town or SW of town. I think those are the prettiest areas around keep you close to all the outdoor activities I mentioned.

I know that Colorado "locals" get all bent out of shape about transplants but in reality we are all transplants at some point. I would welcome anyone that wants to move to Montrose and be a part of the community and contribute to our local economy. Best of luck.

Downtown Main Street area is very nice. Be sure to eat at The Stone House while there. Montrose is over 20,000 population, Delta is around 8,000. Good luck to you.
Definitely agree on the Stone House -- wonderful place to eat and relax. The views south to the San Juans are gorgeous -- I have them outside my windows, unobstructed. It's making it harder to move away!

I've only been to Montrose once (so far)... But I think it is a beautiful place. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is awesome, and the San Juans to the south are breathtaking. I love those mountains.
