I couldn't remember the name of the brewery there in Salida until I saw this. Yes, I used to enjoy Amica's when we made the trek into Salida once or twice a year.

And Bailey is the last place, going south/west, you'll find reasonably priced gasoline. In Fairplay it's about 30 cents/gal higher.

Do you get many retired people moving there and living there all seasons or are they mostly snowbirds? We very outdoor types (cattle ranch) and spend most of September in Chama which of course gets us to Pagosa every year too. If we should retire in that area we would live there all year. I've lived in snow areas before like the upper midwest but I guess the best thing is if the ranch should ever sell rent a house for winter and see what happens!

about 1/2 of the homes here are 2nd homes and we have a large # of retired folks here. I love having all 4 seasons, the winters are not bad, lots of sun and we usually don;t have much for wind so you can get outside and have fun. I have had a few clients do just that, come and rent a place for the winter and all of them have bought a place. You will want a good snow blower (makes if fun when we get a big dump)
