I'm strongly considering going to http://www.astro.ex.ac.uk/exoclimes/2012/ , but Aspen is expensive as hell. Since I'm attending for an academic conference, side jobs as a ski bum probably won't cut it.

I live in Seattle, by the way.

You gave not the slightest hint of what you mean by cheap, so I have no parameters to go by. Perhaps the hostel accomadation might work for you. I'll post the link and you can make your own determination:

You can either drive from Seattle or fly. I bet if you keep your eye on airfares between Seattle and Denver, you can find some deals. You don't say when you're going (winter? summer?), but if you drive you could camp along the way to save money. It's probably 24 hours of driving time.

For cheaper accommodations, you'll have to look way outside of Aspen. Try Carbondale or even Glenwood Springs. Aspen is a driveable distance from Glenwood.

The Aspen Center for Physics usually has room options available for it's conferences. Before you get into figuring out how to get to Aspen and where to stay you may want to check that there is still availability since the registration deadline was October 15th.
