There was a Thanksgiving blizzard in 1983. My friend was getting married that weekend. It was hard for guests to get to her wedding. There have been a few other Thanksgiving snows since I moved here in 1980.

Yes, I remember that one, Pitt, I had a four month old baby and we were trying to get out of Denver to visit the in-laws.
There was another Thanksgiving blizzard, not as bad, in the late 80's, it might have been '87, and it seems like the early 90s were snowy Novembers, too.
It definitely can happen, and it definitely can wreak havoc with travelers, whether you are trying to fly, or trying to safely get over that pass at La Veta, where we once saw a horrendous car accident in a day-before-Thanksgiving snowstorm.
OTOH
It's true that often Turkey Day can be t-shirt weather, and very dry indeed.

According to the local news Denver and vicinity will get snow next Tuesday and Wednesday - just in time for Thanksgiving.
We need some sort of moisture, either rain or snow, it's dryer than dry here.

I was 5 months pregnant, couldn't button my coat! I remember it being cold through December that year and I was a visiting nurse, constantly in and out of the cold.

Back in the 1970's, I had to travel from Denver to Gunnison every Thanksgiving weekend for several years in a row. For 4 years in a row, I drove in a nasty snowstorm and/or blizzard at least one direction on the round trip. I traveled on a lot of Thanksgiving weekends since then, and have never gotten caught in a bad storm. Go figure.
