During that last press conference, I heard one of the announcers go off-camera and express a profanity about something.

It looks like it is vital that they somehow keep this fire from crossing over to the south side of 24.

Default Waldo Canyon - update

These photos were taken today, 26 June at about 4:45pm from Briargate Parkway area. As of now, about 5:30, the wind is shifting and becoming stronger, coming from the west...not good.

Default Last Chance Fire 100% Contained

Here's a recently updated story on the fire that rapidly burned 45,000 acres in the northeastern part of the state overnight on Monday.

My heart goes out to the motorist whose flat tire ignited the blaze; the article says the motorist "tried to put out the sudden flames with a shovel and dirt when suddenly the spot hit the ditch and lit up like dynamite...

Default Pre-Evacuation Notices Continue in Boulder

Additional pre-evacuation notices for South Boulder -- direct from the Boulder Office of Emergency Management:

June 26 5:45 p.m. - Additional pre-evacuation notices sent out in city

The City of Boulder has issued 1,485 additional pre-evacuation notices to phone numbers within city limits to include the Shanahan Ridge neighborhood. This is in addition to the 931 notices previously sent out. The current boundaries are Dartmouth to the north, Greenbriar to the south, Table Mesa and foothills on the west and Broadway on the east.

Residents in this area should begin preparing for possible evacuation orders. Gather up personal belongings and pets and stay tuned for additional instructions. An evacuation center has been established at New Vista High School at Broadway and Baseline.

In addition, the City of Boulder has announced that it is closing the pool at the South Boulder Recreation Center as a result of poor air quality caused by smoke. The recreation center itself remains open. For parents with children participating in summer camps, staff are continuing to monitor the situation and will issue e-mail updates as they become available.

I was driving home from DIA around 3 pm and my heart sank when I saw the black plume of smoke coming from the Boulder area. When I got closer it looked to be just west of NCAR.

The scanner feed from Colorado Springs right now pretty much sounds like a war zone would. This is the kind of wildfire event that is everyone's worst nightmare.

Headed out to get a few vantage points of the fire. Nothing worth noting except there was some visible crowning that could be viewed from the south side of the fire and the smoke plume was blowing mainly east northeast of the fire line. Was taking shots from 4:40 to about 6:30 and didn't see them start dropping tanks of anything 'til 5:15ish. On the way home down 93 to 72, we saw multiple cloud to ground strikes around Golden and could even make out the plume of the Waldo Fire down in the Springs.

From the east on the Boulder Overlook off US36:

Also from the Overlook:

From the southeast near a closed open space (heh):

Also from the southeast:

Again from the southeast. You can see a slurry bomber heading in for a drop to the left of the plume:

From the south:

Especially in that HEAT.

Colorado Springs and El Paso County, Colorado Fire and EMS Live Scanner Audio Feed

So harsh on all involved including animals and wildlife.

I lived in Rockrimmon for about 6 years, graduated USAFA High School.
Had a paper route, could see Garden of the Gods and also lots of Eagles flying on my morning routes.
