Default More Pix of the Buena Vista Area

Here are some I took in Nov 2008, the week before Thanksgiving. It was still mild and snow free that wee, but the week of Thanksgiving the skies opened up and it snowed like mad in most of the High Country.

We approached Buena Vista from the east, coming in on Hwy 24 out of COLO SPGS and picking up Hwy 285 about 12 miles west of Hartsel. This approach traverses Wilkerson Pass, which gives a good view of the Collegiate Peaks that are named for major universites.

There is a prison in Buena Vista, seen from an overlook east of town; much of the town is seen from this vantage point.

Heading south out of Buena Vista are ranching lands that butt right up to the mountains. They make good use of old railroad boxcars in this state, the obsolete ones are worth more as storage buildings than they are for scrap.
