Hi. My husband and 2 kids took a trip to colorado last year and fell in love. We are getting tired of south FL and are looking to change. Having 2 children(7 and 2) where do you recommend? What are the best school districts? Anyone made this move and how was the adjustment? Thank you

Cassy, many many people have made the move from all points East. I suggest that you read through some of the excellent posts on this forum to get some answers to your questions. Lots of discussions about how Colorado is different from the East Coast and also about acclimating to living in a high desert.

Before we can recommend any place for you to move to, you need to tell us where the job is going to be. The Denver metro area has a couple dozen school districts spread out over a huge area. There are many good school districts as well as many excellent neighborhoods to choose from. Rather than starting with trying to narrow down a place to live and then realizing that jobs would be a ridiculous commute, we always recommend finding the job first and then finding a neighborhood.

Lots of "best places". It just depends on what you value and what your budget is.

Please keep in mind that "best place" will vary from person to person and family to family. It's highly personal and subjective. If you can describe what "best" means to you, that will help us help you. That should also include what you'd like your home and neighborhood to look like, and activities you like to do on weekends, etc. Some people just focus on jobs and schools, and leave out all of the rest (which come sometimes overshadow jobs and schools). You might want to also clarify why CO. Please also search CO/FL discussions, and visit before getting too far along with plans. Welcome to this site!

Colorado's a big place, OP. There are many options, if you work from home. The first question that comes to mind, since you're in Florida, is: are you ready for snow? Also, the summer heat is more of a dry heat. Are you looking for small town life, or a city?

Take a look at places like Golden, Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont and Loveland. They are pretty popular choices for young families. If you want to be closer to the center of Denver or out in the hills, there are good options available there too. Colorado Springs area offers a more affordable real estate market.

With all its military infrastructure, communications networks in Colorado Springs are extensive and powerful and well suited to home interface.

But, I'll pile on with others in saying that Colorado is a big place and best schools, safe neighborhoods, and quality of life can be met in many different ways in many different places to it is best to break out the list of must haves, want to haves, and things you aren't concerned with and overlay that with various areas.

Adjustment factors...its elevation is high, so you'll be out of breath for months. Its dry, so your skin, hair, and lips will dry out and crack and most of the outlying country are brown most of the year. If your visits consisted of Boulder and Rocky Mtn Nat Park, daily life here can be shockingly less exciting and as much of a grind as anyplace else with dense populations centers, expensive housing, and packed commutes.

Thank you all. My apologies I should have been more specific. We would like to be close to denver, but not in it. Like 30-45 minute range. I have 2 children so good schools are very important. I'd like to be close to actovities for them as well, like nice parks. I want a good safe place for them to grow up. The snow doesn't bother me as I have visited it many times. I know it's different actually living it, but I think we will adjust fine. The heat down here is brutal! We don't even get a winter lol. The people down here are so rude also. Colorado seemed to genuinely have nicer people, even my 7 year old noticed it. We all feel ready for a change

Budget matters. Can't recommend anything without it.
