I have been considering a job opportunity in Montrose (I work in the solar industry). I currently live in Denver and have lived in and around the Front Range for about five years now. I love the outdoor recreation that Colorado has to offer but do not care much for city living. I am tired of the hustle and bustle of the sprawled out Front Range. I spend most of time outdoors so I'm not looking for a fancy home, I would be looking for a small place to rent for my dog and I. I've read this forum pretty extensively and have appreciated everyone's input. I would like to inquire about something that hasn't really been talked about: skiing. I am aware of the surrounding ski resorts but what about that remarkable terrain of the southwestern Elks and the northern San Juans? Is there a good outdoor community within Montrose? I also spend a good deal of time mountain biking and the terrain of the western slope is fantastic. I am 24 and don't really fit the mold for the people moving from the Front Range to the western slope. How would it be looking for places to rent (with possible roommates) in or around Montrose? I appreciate any and all input as I really have no idea what I would be getting into but I know I want to leave the city and the surrounding area of Montrose looks to be recreationally rich with opportunity.

There's lots and lots of posts here about Montrose and the surrounding area. Lots to do, friendly people, little crime and traffic.
